What Are 3D Number Plates

3D number plates and speed cameras; 3D number plates are a type of number plate that uses a polyurethane gel resin material to create a raised, three-dimensional effect on the characters and design elements of the plate. The gel resin is applied to the surface of a vinyl-cut letter and allowed to cure into the desired shape, resulting in a visually striking appearance.

The characters on 3D gel number plates are typically made from a clear-colored gel resin, which is applied to a pre-cut vinyl letter and formed into raised letters and numbers. The raised effect adds depth and dimension to the characters, making them more visually appealing. So if you’re wondering whether 3D number plates and speed cameras are compatible; read on!

Speed Cameras and 3D Number Plates

Speed cameras are devices used to monitor and enforce speed limits on roads. They capture images or record videos of vehicles passing by and use various technologies to measure their speed. These technologies include radar, laser, or induction loops embedded in the road surface.

As for 3D number plates, they refer to license plates that use three-dimensional characters instead of the traditional flat ones. The purpose of 3D number plates is to enhance the visibility and readability of the license plate, making it easier for law enforcement agencies and surveillance systems to capture accurate information. The raised characters create shadows, which can improve visibility in different lighting conditions and reduce the chances of misreading or tampering with the license plate.

However, there have been reports that 4D acrylic number plates are not being correctly picked up by speed cameras or police enforcement cameras; reports suggest that occasionally, a few of the characters aren’t being shown which seems a bit bizarre as all the characters on a 4D number plate are typically made from the same black perspex acrylic sheet.

With regards to 3D gel number plates and speed cameras; no reports or feedback have been provided to say that the registration number is displaying incorrectly.

In more recent times, there have been products such as ‘speed camera spray’ that compromises the visibility of number plates that creates a reflective layer on the surface of the number plate although some websites state they don’t work…
