Yes! All number plates have to have capital letters; this is industry standard and a requirement to comply with the British standards. Another key note is that O’s & 0’s are the same. I’s and 1’s also have the same character format.

To comply with the current MOT inspection guidelines and BSAU 145e, the smallest possible rectangle registration plate sizes for import vehicles consist of the following:-

  • 408w x 87h (mm) – 7 digit reg
  • 354w x 87h (mm) – 6 digit reg
  • 300w x 87h (mm) – 5 digit reg
  • 226w x 87h (mm) – 4 digit reg
  • 172w x 87h (mm) – 3 digit reg

However, if any of your characters consist of an I or a 1, then the width of your number plate can be reduced by 34mm (for each 1 or I you have) as the character width can be 10mm as opposed to 44mm. These sizes can be found on our interactive number plate generator.

According tothe DVLA and relevant Government Legislation, the following ID and documentation can be supplied to prove your identity and ownership of the vehicle prior to purchasing a registration plate. This information is required by law and if ANY number plate supplier does not request this information then they are trading illegally!

Proof of ID:

A = Driving Licence
B = Utility, telephone or council tax bill
C = A bank or building society statement
D = Passport
E = Foreign National Identity Card
F = Debit or Credit Card
G = A police warrant card
H = An armed forces identity card

Proof of Ownership:

1= Registration Certificate (V5C)
2 = Tear off slip V5C/2 section 10 of the V5C
3 = Certificate of entitlement to a mark (V750)
4 = Cherished transfer retention document (V778)
5 = Vehicle licence renewal form (V11)
6 = Temporary registration certificate (V379)
7 = Authorisation Certificate (V948) with Official DVLA stamp
8 = A letter of authorisation from Fleet Operators (including a lease/hire company) quoting the document reference number from the V5C
9 = Record of the insurer’s name, reference and policy number (for repairs approved by an insurance company).

To maintain RNPS SID number and to comply with the DVLA trading rules; number plate suppliers are required to keep customer records for a minimum of 3 years. This information is required in order to prove that a particular trader has completed a trade.

Yes. We can manufacture any size number plate. However, bespoke number plates may incur an added charge as design time will need to be implemented and the costs to cover the time required to set up machine tools etc… Custom plates will be subject to additional lead times subject to the complexity of the custom number plate design.

First and foremost, this is not for advertising but a legal requirement. In order to fully comply with the British Standards, number plate suppliers need to print their company details and postcode along the bottom centre of the number plate. The most recent British Standard code all needs to be printed on the bottom right of the number plate alongside the company icon where the materials were sourced from.

If you have received a faded number plate, it is likely to be the protective film that needs to be removed. Peel off this film carefully from one of the corners (it can be difficult) but rest assured – your new replacement number plates will be gleaming!

The only legal font is Charles Wright and must be black only. However, many styles can be used such as:-

  • 4D (both 3mm and 5mm)
  • 3D gel
  • 4D with a layer of gel on-top (sometimes called 5D number plates)
  • 4D retro (bevelled characters)
  • Generic printed

Our dispatch times are completely dependant on when we receive your documentation. After placing your order you ar prompted to send us your proof of ownership and proof of ID. Once we receive this we will typically make your order within 1-2 working days. However, we do have a priority shipping service to have these dispatched same day.

Yes, if you want a number plate that is not a registration number and just a logo or some custom text for instance then it is not a problem. We can make any business branded number plates.

Yes, you can have borders on number plates and in any colour. At JDM Plates we offer a range of coloured number plate border options including raised 4D acrylic borders.

Unfortunately we do not. As we primarily deal with the UK market and need to see and record relevant documents, we do not ship internationally.

Unfortunately we do not pre-drill replacement number plates. Every vehicle has different mounting locations therefore it should be done when near the vehicle to ensure the holes should be where they need to be. JDM Plates do have a number plate fitting guide for any top tips.

Typically, your right to cancel an order starts the moment you place your order and doesn’t end until 14 days from the day you receive your goods.

However, there are some caveats with bespoke and personalised items which include number plates.

Made up Number Plates are a bespoke item and cannot be resold to another person due to ownership rights, therefore we are unable to offer a full refund, we can however refund the cost of your postage, accessories, and fitting kits.
